Comfortable drive. Nothing spectacular. Vegetation changed from being a rice centric plantation to sugarcane. Maybe, change of planting. Dusty run. Drizzle all the way thru. So, vehicle washed in Varanasi is now filthy again.
Thought my observations during this leg may be interesting
1 Always ask hotels specifically
1.a Hot water in the shower at all times of the day. Just had a cold shower in the most expensive hotel of this trip - The Manor Bareilly. Third such experience. Buggers want to replace hot shower with hot water in bucket delivered by running boy. Happened to Uma and self in Ajanta/Elora. Was then part of stated deal - running hot water.
1.b Always check carefully about parking. Is it within a compound. Or on the road and under camera ?? Else, parking available could be anywhere.
2 Saw almost no private vehicles run on highways in Jharkhand, Bihar and Eastern UP. Food is therefore at lorry frequented dhabas. Pit stops have to be the good old way. We, in TamilNadu and Karnataka are blessed. Andhra is as bad as the rest.
3 There was NO garbage piled at any corner of Jharkhand, Bihar or UP. The roads I did because of Google's need to educate me, took me thru the heartland of these states. There were cows/ buffaloes roaming, goats loitering, dogs yelping, and therefore dung of all varieties on the road. But, NO garbage. No plastic bags floating in the wind.
4 People are all friendly. The smile is there. No attempt at rip off has happened to date, except for the hot water. Knowing the language is an advantage. But, nevertheless.
5 Never ever trust Google Maps completely. If not open to adventure, always carry physical map. Verify route. Else, you can be going cross country because Google believes there is a road that lessens travel time. Do not immediately think "settings". Just believe me.
6 Dal Fry tastes the same across the belt I travelled. Potatoes are sweeter than they should be. Vendekkai / Bhindi is as gooey as always. Had nothing else. Will change in the hills.
7 There are more girls going to school than boys. No clue why. Just stating the count on cycles as I drove by.
8 UP and Bihar believe that white Boleros and Scorpios are the vehicles to own. Though, they don't drive fast !! Jharkhand is not to forward.
9 There were branded showrooms in every town I stopped.
10 Roads were uniformly, not to be complained about. Every stretch had about 20 percent of bad roads. Given the rains, not too bad.
11 Dog packs are the worst of all animals that can be encountered on the highway. They scatter in all directions !! Cows amble, goats do not move till the last moment, horses sleep. Dogs wait till you are there, and then scoot multi-directionally.
