Tabo
24th September 2022
Woke up to some fresh snow on the lower mountains. The snow clad peaks seen yesterday morning were hidden behind the clouds.
Had a decent breakfast and left Kalpa in a fine drizzle.
The road I had come up by had a lot of sharp hairpin bends, on a narrow single lane road. The road I went down on was a two lane straight road, except for a few hairpins where necessary. Was a good drive down. No traffic, but you lose altitude so quickly that the ears pop.
Reached the highway. Thereafter it was just the road to be followed. It meandered beside the River Satluj. Sometimes on the right, others on the left.
It was at times brilliant, at times a narrow single lane, and for a 20 kilometer run it was not very good to the vehicle.
But like always on this trip, when I don't have too much to say, will leave you with the pictures. Unfortunately have not been able to load the videos of many parts of the drive.
That is the river, contours of which were followed by the road. Till the road had to climb, but even then, the river was there.
The drive was an absolute pleasure. The drizzle wet my head each time I got out to take a picture. Or, a lot more for a pit stop.
The surroundings kept me excited all the way.
The terrain was changing. From having a green surrounding, the land was becoming more and more barren.
As you will see, the river is still there. Much lower down.
And, there are patches of green, where ever there is a village. Apples and apples.
The terrain is road, sand, shoal.
And, then apples.
How I wish I could share some of the drive videos that show the road as it curves thru this absolutely fascinating terrain
There are so many pictures and videos. Cannot load all of them, unfortunately.
Reached White Lotus Homestay at Tabo around 1245.
This place has a lot of caves supposedly over 1000 years old.
And, the river is accessible.
Had a easy lunch, then headed down to the river.
Headed down to the river was literal.
Water was freezing.
The first picture is the village with the caves in the background. The second is of a part of the caves.
Relaxed for a bit. Then went for a long walk. First thru the village. Then into the fields.
Tomorrow is a walk and a trek, to the Temple, then the Gompa, then the caves.
Post Breakfast.
Enjoy your trip in total solitude. I AM SURE AFTER THIS TRIP YOU WILL RETIRE IN KODAI.
