Padum - Sheela Waterfall

12th October 2022

This was a case of planning getting a bit out of sync.

The people I had spoken to at Leh had expected me to reach Padum thru the Kargil route. This had made them expect me to do two hard runs yesterday and today - one to Lingshed and the other to Purnea.

Well, I came over the Lingshed route, so one as already covered. And, the second location was very similar.

Decided to sit back and let the vehicle have a break.

Everything was late today. Partly my laziness at nothing on plan. Partly because I slept late.

The local Member of Parliament was in town and was having a dinner meeting at the hotel I was staying. Net result, dinner was delayed because staff were too busy waiting at the long table his party had.

Will not complain as dinner was a spread. Vegetable, Paneer, Chicken, Dal, Rice. Ate very well.

Then breakfast was delayed. The lady of the house was making poori chole to take to the local Gompa as they had some religious ceremonies to conduct.

Not complaining, though.

Watched the entertainment in the morning sitting in the hotel lawn. The sun is delightful. A cap is as much a must as a heavy wind safe jacket.

Left for the waterfall at around 1000.

Very few roads in the region allow you to forget the River Zanskar.

You could avoid the next picture if you want. The waterfall was tiny.

Presume it is on the tourist map for the locals as they are in need for something to talk about. Little do they realise that the valley in itself with the mountains is exciting enough.

The last picture is taken over a GREF/BRO camp. They are all over the place, doing a fantastic job.

Got back in time for lunch.

Went for a walk late afternoon when the sun was still up to get the blood circulating.

Tomorrow I drive out, North.
