Rameshwaram Mandapam and Kodi
Good morning
Woke up to a lovely gesture from this very kind lady, who helped a cyber novice create a blog site !!
Drove to Mandapam about 10 days back in my Thar. Second long run, Wanted to test it before I headed out North. Great vehicle to drive. Holds the road beautifully. Was joined by the kids in Thanjavur. Spent a night in Thanjavur before we went on to Mandapam.
Camped at a resort in the middle of a fishing village, but got total privacy. And, some very very cold beer.
Mandapam was great. Fresh prawns, crab and fish from the morning catch. Fortunately the kids split their attention. Kavya attacked the crab and Rudra the prawns. The feast was extended when it was decided that we pack a couple of kilos of prawn to carry to Kodi.
Swimming in still waters was absolutely bliss for the kids.
Only pain was when Rudra was kissed by a jellyfish on his thighs. Hurt like hell. Local fishermen were quick to help, advising us to spread sand over the stung area. Then some vinegar. Definitely eased the pain.
Rameshwaram was crowded, as expected. Spent some time at the temple. Was a good feeling.
Went to Dhanushkodi from there, instead of the next day as planned, as we wanted to head up to Kodi a day early.
Got sand blasted from all directions. Spent about an hour on the sands trying to catch sight of the Sri Lankan coast. Left before the hordes descended, back to Mandapam.
Headed to Kodi the next afternoon, after a boat ride. Just in case you swim thinking the waters are deep, be careful of the rocks on the sea bed.
Got to Kodi in comfortable time. Was great being back there.
As you can probably see, I swing the gold club at times like a hockey stick !!!!
More next week.
See you.
