Joshimath I
Diary October 2nd. Started at 0600 odometer at 7941.
The first 25 kilometres were a repeat of yesterday’s story. Took a couple of hours.
And then, the Gods took pity. Turned off onto another route towards Chamoli, which is where I had to join the main road to Joshimath.
Narrow, tree lined road, good surface. And, absolutely awesome visual treat. Could not stop for any pictures.
Stopped for breakfast at a place called Chopta. This place is a trekking centre. Lots of tiny places to stay and walk the mountains. Was cold when I stopped there. Believe the temperatures drop below freezing in winter. And, they rely heavily on solar. Lovely green cover all around.
The road stayed great, as did the visuals. Passed a Tata Storm parked by the road. It caught up fast. I let it go, as I have been doing in these hills. These locals chase tails very very close. Better to stay behind them. Provides an early warning for potholes. Stayed with the Tata Storm till Joshimath, that is, for over 3 hours. Lost it for a while over some really bad roads further down the hills. But caught it again. Young girl driving a car full of people. Bouncing them over every bump. Aggressive driver. Must be the youngest daughter of the house.
The visual treat did not change till I reached Chamoli.
Then it was the dusty highway till Joshimath. Google screwed me again. Told me to take a walking path up the mountain side to the resort. Reverted to good old manual systems. Asked the youngster by the road.
At first sight the resort, named Dream Mountain Resort, is a nothing. Then, you see the view it has, and it is certainly out of a dream. Going to sleep and waking up with these views is an absolute dream.
Left you with the sight of my accommodation and dinner !!
Am here for the next few nights. So, you'll get snow for a while.
