Rudraprayag I

Good evening.

Have free wifi at the hotel !!!!

And, a room geyser. And, a shower.

But lunch was screwed.

Cook came in after I had finished eating. Believe he was out on a walk, so assistant cook made aloo gobi for lunch. Could see neither the aloo or the gobi !! Bugger boiled the stuff then cooked it a pit of oil. Saved you guys the sight of it.

That's the worst part of the day. Got it out, so am good.

Have even found that there is a booze shop here. Got to plan ahead. It is now hot. Have air-conditioning working. But day after, some parts may freeze and drop off IF I end up with no booze on a cold freezing evening. You wouldn't like that to happen to me, right ?? Nor would I. So, will stock up to last me for the hills.

Left early enough. After I helped the cook open the kitchen.  Posted yesterday's travel.

Departed at 0630 with odo meter at 7746.

Gave a couple of school kids walking down the road a lift. Good deed for day done. Refused lift to another guy who asked. Didn't like the "must also get" expression.

Drove easy. These locals drive like tomorrow is yesterday.

Roads are seriously good. Under development. Multi lane, great in patches. Have traffic pile ups where the road is being widened. To be expected.

Had every vehicle overtake me, and was happy about it. Stopped every time I saw a photo opportunity. Took 6 hours for a 3 hour run.

Stopped to present the primate species for this area to  the wildlife of the family.

Breakfast at a roadside dhaba. And guess what, again. Side stuff was a variation.

Passed Devprayag. This is where the Alaknanda and the Mandakini join to become the Ganges.

Got into Rudraprayag by lunch. This is where you have the confluence of the Alaknanda and the Bhagirathi to continue on as the Alaknanda.

Do hope I have that right !! My fact checker is missing.

Relaxed after lunch waiting for the explosion. Fortunately, survived. Left the hotel at 1630 to walk down to the confluence. Was told it was a kilo and a half. Turned out to be 3 kilos downhill.

Reached the confluence spot. There is an old Shiva temple there. And , a Ghat constructed recently at the confluence. Waited for the aarthi, which started at 1815. Was offered the valaku to participate. Refused nicely, as I was in shorts.

Went down to the confluence to pay my respects to the ladies flowing in, powerful, as only ladies can be.

Left after the aarthi. Had a long walk back. Took me about 45 minutes of hard uphill walking. Sweating well at the end of it. Drink well earned.

Intend going tomorrow in the Thar, so no issues even if it rains, wait for the temple pujai that happens after the confluence aarthi.

See you tomorrow.
